The Why and the How

I’ve worn a lot of hats over the years—educator, doula, trainer, small business owner, facilitator. Some of it came with certificates. Most of it came from being in the room, doing the work.

This brand may be new, but it’s built on decades of real-world experience—and not just mine. I learned that professional training only goes so far, because not everything goes according to the books. So I learned alongside my clients. Their experiences became my teachers just as much as the “experts”.

About Me

Welcome to my passion. As a doula mentor, author, speaker, and self-defense instructor, I’ve supported thousands of families. Not in a "Let me check my files," way, but in a sitting on their sofa, petting the cat, exploring their family photos kind of way. I’m there for the successes and have scrambled again and again to create customized solutions.

My education and experience equip me with many answers, the most important being that I don’t have all the answers. Also that the people I’m supporting usually do—they just need the confidence to trust themselves.

In addition to learning from the families I serve, my professional relationships keep me up to date and introduce me to new concepts. These are brilliant, caring experts whose insights are woven into our products, as well.

I offer guided workshops on a unique, practical, non-physical, and reality-based form of self defense for women (see link at bottom).

I’ve done a lot of presenting and speaking, both throughout the US and internationally. From presenting to hundreds of conference attendees to over a thousand hours of doula workshops, I thoroughly enjoy sharing what I do and learning from attendees.

Just as our MIG customers are experiencing life transitions, I’m experiencing one, too. My focus is now bringing this personalized approach to a wider audience. I’m learning on my feet, just like you. I’m having challenges and successes, just like you. In other words, I get it. Let’s do this together.

Here are some examples of the work I’ve done in the field of family connection.

Sustainable by Design

Every part of what we make—from the materials to the packaging to the people we work with—is intentional. We choose recycled paper, seeded paper that grows wildflowers, and recycled packaging that contributes to quality of life rather than landfill.

Intentionally light. Intentionally gentle on the Earth.
Because the smallest things can have the biggest impact.

Woman-Owned, Values-Run

There wasn’t one big moment—just a lot of small ones that added up.
First I lived it. Then I observed it—again and again in the families I supported.

The experience of being told—by “experts”—what I need and how I should do things. As a woman. As a mother. As a partner.
So, no.

We’re not here to tell you how to do things.
We’re here to open up possibilities and help strengthen confidence—one card, one moment, one family at a time.

Who We Work With

We work with a curated group of like-minded partners with shared priorities. They're not just vendors. We know them. We trust them. And in many cases, they’ve told us they want to be customers, too.

  • Fulfillville — A woman-owned fulfillment center in Philadelphia, where real humans (not robots) pack every order with care.

  • Greenerprinter — Our printing partner in California, using 100% recycled stock and vegetable-based inks for our cards.

  • EcoEnclose — Makers of our recycled, recyclable mailers that keep our packaging low-waste.

  • Custom Earth Promos — Suppliers of the seeded paper that brings our Milestone Cards to life—literally.

Everything we make is built on partnership, not just production. That’s by design.

Made in the USA

Everything we make is produced right here in the United States. Not because it’s easy—but because it aligns with what we care about.

From the very beginning, the people helping bring these products to life have told us something surprising: they want to be customers, too. That’s the kind of relationship we’re looking for. We don’t just want vendors—we want to know the people who make our stuff.

We make everything here in the U.S., and it’s so much harder than we expected.
It means real research.
It means finding partners, not just printers.
It means paying more to do things the way we believe they should be done.

But when your goal is to build community, that starts with how things are made—not just who ends up buying them.

I “Wrote the Book” on Supporting New Families

Written for doulas and others who support growing families, this second edition of my book is required reading for doula training programs.

I Learned From the Experts: Thousands of Parents

After fifteen years as a birth and postpartum doula, I opened BirthMark—a physical space built around the same purpose that drives Make it Grand. We sold fair-trade products for the childbearing year, provided breastfeeding support, and ran five support groups a week. I was surprised to find that's when the learning really kicked in. During that time, I supported thousands of families. Day after day, through infancy, toddlerhood, second and even third children. These were greater teachers than all the trainings and conferences I could ever attend. Eighteen years later, some of these early parenting groups are still going strong.

My Students Were Also Teachers

Same goes for the nearly 1,000 doulas I’ve trained over the years. They’ve taught me more than I ever imagined—about parenting, about how differently people experience the world, and about what it really means to show up for someone without trying to fix them.

Payback is a Blessing

The story of how I inadvertently created the community that saved my family. A real-life testimony to how friendships can be lifesaving.

It’s a fact: the majority of threats to our personal safety as women do not come from strangers. It’s people we know. It’s not what we’re told to prepare for in typical self defense education, leaving women and girls unprepared for this statistical reality.
